The 806MHz processor lags behind the competition. At least a 1GHz dual-core processor, even in this price range, is pretty standard nowadays.
The focus may be on BlackBerry 10 at the moment, but we have confirmation that BlackBerry plan to announce a new device in 2013 that will still run on BlackBerry OS 7.1. That device is going to be called the 9720 and it already has a code name of ‘Samoa’. Thanks to the guys at once again we now have clear press images of the BB 9720, which suggest that the device could be close to an official announcement. It looks like it is going to be as simple as it gets, with a QWERTY keyboard and a small display screen that is thought to have a 480×360 resolution. The design will be similar to the classic Bold devices that you may still be in possession of, but will still come with some modern touches such as a dedicated BBM messenger button and a rear camera to ensure that you’ll still be able to shoot some vital images. There’s no information on processor, the quality of camera or storage yet, but don’t expect anything too top of the range considering that this isn’t a BlackBerry 10 device. What you can expect to see though is a price that will relate to the bare bone features of the device, so it could be perfect for consumers who would like a new BlackBerry device but don’t want to pay over the odds for one.
Expect more information on specs as we get it. For now, give us your initial thoughts on this new BB7-based device. Anybody interested in this or not? Alan has been working for Product-Reviews since 2009 and became the Editor-in-chief in 2014.

The BlackBerry 9720 runs on the older BlackBerry 7.1 OS rather than the newest and sleekest BB10 OS, appealing to those looking for a budget handset with the aesthetics of BlackBerry’s classic Curve range. Sure to tread on the sales toes of the BB10 touting BlackBerry Q5 unless marketed correctly, the BlackBerry 9720 will launch in Europe, Latin America and Asia “in the coming weeks”, with an unknown price tag. BlackBerry 9720 Features The BlackBerry 9720 has a full physical QWERTY keyboard and a 2.8-inch touch screen display with a 480 x 360p resolution and 214ppi image density. In the rear is a 5-megapixel camera with 4X digital zoom and image stabilisation, but the BlackBerry 9720 lacks a forward-facing snapper. It has a 1450mAh removable battery that offers up to 7 hours talk time or 18 days on standby.
